We welcome student pilots to the Jacksonville Navy Flying Club. If you have never before flown an airplane, or if you’re a pilot looking to get further licenses, we at the JFNC would love to help you with your goal.

The first step for any student pilot at JNFC should be to take a discovery flight with one of our FAA Certified Flight Instructors. Once you have done that, contact your flight instructor to determine the next steps.

FLIGHT TRAINING RESOURCES

Flight training resources are now available in the Flight Training Section

AVAILABLE TRAINING

The private pilot course is designed for new students who do not have a pilot’s license. This training will fully prepare you to fly solo, fly cross country, and fly with your friends and family as passengers. JNFC has plenty of aircraft and instructors designed for flight training for private pilots, and we are happy to offer this training to any of our members.

The FAA minimums to earn a Private Pilots License include 40 hours of flight (including 20 hours with a Certified Flight Instructor), a knowledge test, an oral exam, and a practical flight test with an FAA Examiner.

An instrument rating is generally the “next step” after earning your initial private pilots license. It allows you to fly through the clouds, and it helps you to become a better, safer, more precise pilot.

The FAA minimums to earn an Instrument Rating in an Airplane include 40 hours of instrument flight or simulated instrument flight (10 hours of which can be in a BATD, and 15 hours of which must be with a CFII), 50 hours cross-country time, a knowledge test, an oral exam, and a practical flight test with an FAA Examiner.

Those who desire to become flight instructors, commercial pilots, or airline pilots will need to continue their training by earning a commercial pilot’s license. Once you meet the FAA prerequisites for a commercial pilot’s license, JNFC will be happy to prepare you for your check ride. We will also be happy to refer you to other organizations where you can get your multi-engine license… and we hope that in the near future we can offer multi-engine training as well.

To those who meet the requirements to earn a CFI or CFII license, we’ll be happy to help you get there. We have several seasoned CFIs who will work with you, including some who have recently earned their flight instructor licenses and are familiar with the current way the FAA does business. We are also hoping that in the near future we can offer MEI training as well.
