Randal Miner (Chief Flight Instructor/ CFII, DPE)

Randy earned his Private Pilot certificate as a member of the North Island Navy Flying Club in 1978 before transferring to Jax Navy Flying Club later that year. He earned his CFI at JNFC in 1982 and served as the FAR 141 Chief Flight Instructor from 1986 to 2013. 

Randy retired from the Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer and P-3C Aircrew in 1993. After the Navy he flew as a Corporate and Air Charter Pilot for several Florida companies until 2013. He was a Learjet 35 and 31 Initial and Recurrent Instructor for SimCom in Orlando from 2013 and was selected as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner for Orlando FSDO. He returned to JNFC as an instructor in 2021.

Randy holds an ATP Certificate with Airplane Single and Multiengine ratings, with CE-500, LR-JET, and LR-45 Type Ratings. He holds CFII / MEI /AGI / IGI Instructor and Remote Pilot Certificates. He is an active member of the FAA Safety Team (FAAST) and was designated an “FAA Wings Pro” by the FAA Orlando FSDO in 2022.

Randy and his wife, Karen, own a Piper Lance II at Herlong Airport and enjoy trips to their cabin in Maggie Valley, NC.


Bob Brinley (CFII)

Bob earned his pilot’s license from the FAA in 1981, and retired from the US Air Force in 2013. He became an FAA Certified Flight Instructor after retirement and loves giving back to aviation. 

Bob is a very thorough and patient instructor who works very well with new students. He is also a volunteer Civil Air Patrol Instructor Pilot and SAR/DR Mission Pilot Trainer. He is also an instrument rated pilot and soon to be an instrument instructor as well.

Bill Derr (CFII)

Bill is a highly experienced flight instructor at JNFC as well as Sunrise Aviation at Cecil Field.


Rick Sorrell (CFII)

Rick is a professional pilot who flies for Wheels Up in St Augustine, FL. He is also a highly qualified flight instructor at JNFC.

Ben Gubatina (CFII)

Ben Gubatina serves as the Safety Officer for JNFC and is also an FAA Safety Team member. He joined JNFC in November 2020. He also volunteers with Civil Air Patrol as a CFI and CFII, and he is working on his glider rating as well.

Tyler Johnson (CFI)

Tyler joined the Navy in 2010 and served from 2010-2016 as a flight engineer on. P-3C Orions at NAS Whidbey Island. Went to college majoring in Aeronautical Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach campus graduating in 2019. Rejoined the Navy reserve in 2020 and currently in VP-62 with the Navy reserve as a flight engineer.

Jason Wroten (CFII/MEI)

Jason has been flying since he was 16 years old.  He retired from the Navy with 24 years of service as a P-3 NFO.  

He began his professional pilot career as a Flight Instructor at the Jax Navy Flying Club where he taught from 2002 to 2007.  After taking orders to NAS Whidbey Island, he continued to instruct for 3 more years at the Whidbey Island Navy Flying Club.  Resigning from Active Duty, he transitioned to the Navy Reserve and began flying for Customs and Border Protection in Bellingham, WA where he flew the CE-550, C-12, and Cessna C-206 aircraft on Surveillance and Interdiction missions.  After working for CBP for over 6 years he pursued an airline career that led him to flying the DHC-8 supporting a government contract for the Air Force flying counter-drug missions in Central and South America, before landing at American Airlines in 2018 where he currently flies the Airbus A-320 Family aircraft.

Jason is an aviation enthusiast who enjoys teaching new students and working with skilled aviators! His experience as an Aviation Safety Officer with the Navy as well as a large defense contractor keeps his eye laser focused on flight safety.  Jason’s Flight Instructor experience, time as an NFO Instructor/NATOPS Evaluator, and airline pilot, have all contributed to a high level of Standardization, which he is excited to share with all JNFC Pilots!

Jason is typed in the CE-500, DHC-8, BE-400, and A-320.

Joe Moore (CFI)

Joe is a former USAF C-130 Instructor Loadmaster. He has a degree in Aeronautical Science from the Florida Institute of Technology. Joe started as a private pilot in 2018 and is currently working on gaining his CFII.

Amber Davis (CFI)

Amber is a former elementary school teacher. In 2021, after 11 years in the classroom, she decided on a change of career, and went to ATP flight school. While at ATP she completed her ratings through commercial multi engine. After that, she took a short break, then earned her CFI in December 2022. She started as a flight instructor out at Keystone Airport (42J) and joined the club in April of 2023.
